Webpages That Make Noise
Ok, here's something I totally hate. Webpages that make noise. Specifically, FRONT pages that make noise. Yes, if this is you, you suck.
Some big offenders that I've ran into in the past month:
Dollar Rent-A-Car. When you go to their site, the first thing you hear is a loud VROOM VROOM. Yes, a loud VROOM VROOM interrupts the nice music you've been listening to. Hey, if I wanted my browser to make noise when I visited a page, I'd turn on it's stupid soundeffects it can make when you click something.
WBAL TV. When you visit their site, their "instaweather" forcast video starts playing. WITH SOUND. Please, if I wanted to hear you, I'd watch local TV. I don't. So please stop.
Ok, gripe over.
Almost…there…
After a day of finishing up a bunch of cosmetic "5 minute jobs" (that never take 5 minutes), I've been told that my house is officially "listed" on the market -- though I can't seem to find it on any of the on-line searches. Took some new interior pictures at request of my agent for the listing this evening which I think show some of the "charm."
Maildir Patch Update
An updated version of my sorta-like-maildir c-client
patch is available. It fixes a file-descriptor leak.
The bug was observed by Rob Carlson while using lithium.elemental.org's mail system.
New Traktor DJ Studio 2.6
Yay! Native Instruments has released the new vesion of DJ Studio. UI Improvments galore! However, there are some pretty big bugs so far...some of which I've reported, some of which I haven't yet...
- Doesn't send MIDI sync. Ever. (reported that one)
- Crashes randomly when importing from iTunes
- "chops" long data in ID3 tags. Like album titles. And I've got some long ones.
Updated Maildir Patch
Updated the big "maildir" patch to deal with some problems folks had with multiple-message-moves... well, more specifically multiple-message-appends.
A Bug in OpenSSL
Ok, this is pretty bad.
Recent versions of SSL, being overly security minded, open their random # device ( "/dev/random", or whatever) with the open() option O_NOFOLLOW, meaning, don't follow symlinks.
Sun just recently implemented this option in Solaris 10. Sun also, fills /dev with symlinks to stuff in /devices.
This, as you can imagine, is a problem.
Jon Posts Stuff
Jon posts a lot of stuff. Some of it is silly, some of it is not. And then there was this article. I didn't even read it and I knew it was silly... Just like Jon. I need a beer.
Old Crap
Because you can never have too much old crap sitting around, I've also encoded a couple more video clips from the old Photon days...
- The Lion Roars - A clip about Photon on shown on Dundalk Community College TV
- National Spots - A promo tape that was sent around, showcasing Photon in national TV news.
- Supremacy I - Local TV clip about the Supremacy I tournament.
All are quicktime streams. Enjoy.
A blast from the past.
For those that remembered that old game "Photon", here's the "instructional video" that was shown to new players
http://weasel.nofocus.org/photon.mov. And, if that's not
enough, a small video collage of some times way back.
